Water Damage Restoration – Residential

Water damage occurs more often than you would think. It happens unexpectedly and can leave you feeling helpless and frustrated. A small amount of water can create a huge amount of damage and must be handled immediately. You do not want to leave the damage to sit for more than 48 hours due to the risk of mold growth and secondary damage beyond the initial water damage situation.

If you are experiencing water damage in your home, call the professionals that have the right expertise! Servicing the Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula and Eastern Cuyahoga Counties, we have been restoring properties from water damage for more than 20 years. Available 24 hours a day, we will send out experienced technicians to handle your water damage emergency. They are fully trained to address water losses on an individual basis. Since our firm is certified by the IICRC, (Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration) we are trained to identify the category of water loss on-site and tailor our mitigation process to the conditions present.

Categories of Water Damage

Not all water damage losses are created equal. That is why the IICRC has identified three categories of water. If you experience a water loss in your home, the first thing our technicians will do is identify the category of water, and analyze the extent of the damage.

Category 1: This type of water will come from a relatively clean source. Usually a burst pipe, failed supply lines on appliances or vertically falling rain water. Be aware that category one can quickly degrade into Category 2. Category 1 water can become more hazardous when it sits, mixing with the dirt and grime in soiled carpet and/or saturating drywall and other building materials.

Category 2: Also known as grey water, this type of water has enough contamination that if consumed, could cause sickness to a human being. When this water is present, the restoration process is adjusted and sanitation methods are introduced.

Sump Pump FailedCategory 3: Known as black water, this type of water could cause serious illness and or death if consumed. Sewage backups, flood water from river and streams and ground surface water that may have picked up lawn fertilizers and pesticides as it flows horizontally into your home are considered black water.. Needless to say, if Category 3 water is present in your home, contents and building materials are deemed contaminated and must be cleaned or replaced.

Importance of Fast Response Times

Responding quickly to a water damage loss is essential in order to reduce the risk of damage getting worse. A Category 1 loss can easily turn into a Category 2 loss if the water sits longer than 24 hours. Depending on the conditions, mold spores can start to colonize and damage to the structure can occur in areas that are not obvious to the naked eye. When you call Baker Restoration and Construction, we will respond quickly to avoid increasing the damage done to your home. Below are reasons why you want to hire a professional restoration company quickly to handle your water loss.

  • Prevent Mold Growth: Mold needs three things to survive: moisture, oxygen and an organic food source. Since building materials are a prime food source for mold growth, a small presence of moisture could cause mold to colonize in as little as 24 hours. When you act fast and call Baker Restoration and Construction, we will quickly arrive to your home to begin the mitigation process.
  • Structural Damage: If water is left to sit for long periods of time, not only are you at risk for mold growth, the structure of your home could be compromised as well. Saturated building materials weaken the longer they stay wet. Depending on the type of building materials, load-bearing beams, walls or flooring type, serious damage could occur if not handled immediately. Signs of structural damage would include the buckling of floors, sagging of drywall, cracks in the walls and falling plaster. When you call Baker Restoration and Construction, our fast response can prevent structural damage to your home.
  • Reduced Mitigation Times: The faster Bakers responds the quicker our technicians can begin the extraction process. If we catch the damage before it moves to Category 2 water, then the mitigation process can begin shortly after extraction. Based on a quick response, we can normally have your home dried in 3-4 days and help you get back to your day to day life.
